Gulf Coast Parties Seek More Time To Work Out A Deal
August 24, 2022
All the warring parties in the dispute over bringing Amtrak service back to the Gulf Coast between New Orleans and Mobile today asked the Surface Transportation Board for another 30-day extension for mediation.
Given that it’s a joint motion from everyone in the dispute, it’s highly likely STB will grant the motion and extend the proceeding for another 30 days.
Under a previous order in June, the Board gave everyone involved until August 25 to file their final evidence in anticipation of a Board ruling while participating in additional mediation.
“The Parties all agree that an additional 30-day period of mediation would be productive as they seek to reach an amicable resolution of this matter,” the parties said in their joint motion today.
"We would not be in the position we’re in if it weren’t for the advocacy of so many of you, over a long period of time, who have believed in passenger rail, and believe that passenger rail should really be a part of America’s intermodal transportation system."
